time

seven years ago yesterday, i packed up my worldly belongings and moved out of my then-fiance's house while he was at work, with the help of my parents (who turned around and drove back to NJ from Ohio the day after getting home from a visit here). We were somewhere on the west side of Philadelphia when he figured out something was up.

Seven years ago today i arrived back home in ohio to learn that my little brother and his then-girlfriend (now ex-wife) had just had their baby: a 5 pound, 5 ounce little boy. Douglas Austin came a couple weeks earlier than expected. We called the hospital, and after talking to the nurses and explaining the situation, at nearly 10 pm we unloaded my car and made the trek to the hospital to see him. tiny little thing, all bundled up in blankets. he recognized his mamaw and papaw's voices when the entered the room ~ he turned towards them when they started talking. he didn't know me, as i'd not been around.

now he's seven years old, and bound for first grade in the fall. his daddy turns 30 in a couple weeks. Where does the time go?

on the way to work today, i nearly ran a red light and wrecked several times trying to watch the jets practicing for the air show. i saw two groups of four planes on either side of the car, so i can only assume that two different teams were practicing.

i've heard them pretty much all morning, and expect the zooming to continue til i leave town on Friday night or saturday morning.

the coolest part is knowing that all eyes will be on this small midwestern town this weekend. the most frustrating part is knowing that i can't see what's going on w/o going outside... i wanna WATCH!!
