for someone getting ready to move, shopping for stuff is the last thing i need to be doing!
BUT
When the local consignment/thrift shop is having a big sale (20 to 75% off), and there are things in the upper-discount range still in the original packaging, it's hard to say no.
picked up an overflowing fistful of silverware for the office ($2), 2 or 3 nice oak frames that'll be even nicer once my own stuff is in them ($3 each), a perfectly good corkboard to put on my pantry door ($4), an oak 4-peg hanger thingey, still in the original packaging ($5 i think). Also snagged some books: Katherine Hepburn's book in pristine condition, the first Harry Potter book for $3, and one or two more.
I dropped by the used CD shop that's down the road, too. not only were they closed ("back in 20 minutes" the sign said), another sign said they're not currently buying any CDs. i guess i should think about ebay, although i've never sold anything on there, and only bought from a friend. i'm going to be ruthless about purging CDs and movies. with a few exceptions, anything i've saved to my computer will be parted with, and the movies will all pretty much go, although Casablanca will stay. Two to four boxes of stuff i don't have to unpack and find a place for at my new house!
This flylady thing is so helpful. some of the stuff is a bit annoying (i don't wear makeup, and have no plans to, and have issues with shoes), but the basics are genius. i plan to fully employ the flylady routine in my new house. I've made up an inventory sheet/packing list for boxes as i pack them, so i can start packing and know what's where and where it goes at the new place. Step one will be to just label the already-packed boxes.
I've also started a list of what needs to be done, and what i want to do, room by room. on my next walk-through, i'll add to it. I think it will be most helpful in the long run. i'll be able to identify the immediate needs (painting mostly), shopping should be easier since i'll have master list of what i need, and as i get settled, i can start making notes about what i want to change or do, and work on setting up budgets for the high-ticket items.
