omigawd, Aida was amazing!!!!

ok, first off, the Schuster Center is pretty damn cool. gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous inside, state-of-the-art, with fabulous acoustics (at least to this untrained ear). I sat next to a guy who was the inspector on the whole thing, so i got to hear all sorts of tidbits about the place (like the varying size of the stage, all the hydraulics and stuff).

i was in Row B, on the farthest right, so i was waaaayyy down front ~ so close i could see the facial expressions of the performers! the performers were just so incredible ... to see someone open their mouth and hear such a beautiful sound come out .... damn! i had goosebumps for the first 15 minutes of the performance!! The detail in the set design and costumes was beyond meticulous ... i felt like i was back in Cairo. *sigh* lots of realistic-looking stone monuments and richly-colored costumes. (my only smart-ass comment is that the chorus of men in all white with their heads covered looked like novice nuns in drag... i gotta pick on *somethign*!)

reason #43 to love opera: The only skinny women onstage were the dozen or so dancers from the DCDC2, but even a handful of them were very solid and muscular/athletic rather than reed-thin. The two female leads were both big and beautiful, as were the men. Aida's costume fit her in such a way that it showed off her curves without being sleazy (she's a slave, after all), but damn that woman has a great body!! *blush*
